Vancouver to Williams Lake Flights & 3 Nights
Named after Chief William, a Secwepemc (shi-HUEP-muh-k) chief from the area, the city has been one of the Cariboo Chilcotin’s major crossroads since the turn of the 20th century. Prior to settlers arriving, the area was a meeting place for the Secwepemc First Nation and today its western-frontier personality shines brightly, especially when it hosts the Williams Lake Stampede during the Canada Day long weekend (July 1).
The area is also a mountain biking mecca and boasts excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities. Birders and nature lovers enjoy Scout Island, a nature sanctuary at the west end of the lake that also offers a beach area, nature house, picnic ground, and boat launch and an extensive trail network.
Surrounding the Williams Lake area, travellers will find a plethora of lakes and rivers, trails and trees, as well as an incredible variety of activities to keep busy. Adventurers can take in white water rafting, horseback riding, ATV explorations and mountain biking, while those looking for a more relaxed pace can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, a visit to the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin, farmer's markets, and day trips to popular locations include Farwell Canyon and Riske Creek.
